Lou Mitchell Courtneys' classical art training was in painting and sculpting, concentrating on landscape and the human figure. She graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts with a major in Visual Art and from U.N.C. Greensboro with a B.F.A. in design. She then spent seven years in the furniture industry, designing and building original sculptural prototypes for the companies Lane, Basset Glass, Thomasville (Four Corners Collection) and Casa Bique, among others. During that time she was a member of the American Society of Furniture Designers. John King is a fine woodworker who understands construction materials and techniques, very essential to the construction of large scale architectural ceramics and their installation. He has spent the last 20 years sculpting and installing beautiful large scale ceramic works all over the country with his brother Peter King of Stonehaus Architectural Ceramics.
Together, Lou Mitchell and John have created ELEMENTS Architectural Art Forms, a full service design, fabrication and installation firm specializing in architectural ceramics including handmade sinks, murals, bar facings, fireplaces, fountains, countertops, sconces and original art tiles. ELEMENTS is a member of the Pensacola Professional Artist Guild, a small group of highly talented and skilled artists that each have their own business.
